Blister Sealer or Form-Fill-Seal Machine: Which Do You Need?

A blister sealer handles the sealing step. A form-fill-seal line also creates and fills the package. The right choice depends on which operations your process already completes and which you need the machine to perform.

Start with what arrives at the machine

If your blisters are already formed and the product is already loaded, evaluate the sealing operation: blister and lidding materials, seal area, tooling and loading. If those steps still need to happen, include forming and product filling or placement in the equipment discussion.

Compare the work around each machine

Count the manual work as well as the machine operations. Preparing materials, placing products, changing tooling and checking the first packages all matter in a small batch. A cycle-rate range alone does not tell you how long the complete run will take.

For a development or clinical program, list the number of formats as well as the batch sizes. Identify which formats are settled and which may change. Review the clinical and R&D application page for these planning questions.

Review materials and acceptance criteria

Provide the proposed blister and lidding materials, package drawing and representative product. Discuss forming depth where forming is required, seal requirements and the method of inspection. A result with one material combination does not establish suitability for every other combination.

Ask which tooling, filling equipment, coding and inspection options the proposal includes. Agree on the samples and conditions for an acceptance test rather than treating a model name as a complete specification.
